    What is Essure?

Essure is a surgery free permanent birth control procedure that works with your body to create a natural barrier to prevent pregnancy. The procedure is surgery free and is done in about 10 minute’s right here in the office. Essure is hormone free and is proven 99.83% effective. Most women usually go home in about 45 mins after the procedure and since there’s no downtime to recover most women return to normal activities in 1-2 days. Unlike other forms of permanent birth control, there is no cutting in into the body, burning or destruction of the fallopian tubes through use of radio-frequency energy.

    How does Essure work?

The Essure procedure is done in just 3 easy steps from the comfort of your doctor’s office. First, the doctor will place a tiny insert into each of your fallopian tubes. The inserts are soft & flexible and are delivered with a tube through your vagina and cervix and into your fallopian tubes. These inserts do not contain hormones and no incision is needed. Over the next 3 months, a natural barrier around the Essure inserts will form which will prevent sperm from reaching the eggs. During this 3 month period you must continue to use another form of birth control to prevent pregnancy.

Since Essure does not interfere with a woman’s menstrual cycle, your ovaries will continue to release eggs but since they cannot be fertilized they are absorbed back into your body. After 3 months it’s time to get an Essure Confirmation Test. Through the use of contrast dye & a special type of x-ray, the doctor can verify that the inserts are in their correct location and your fallopian tubes are blocked. It’s very important to have this test done before you can rely on Essure for birth control alone. Until you have confirmation from your doctor you must continue to use another form of birth control.

    Is Essure Safe?

The Essure procedure avoids many of the risks & discomfort involved with surgical procedures like tubal ligation or vasectomy. Side effects can occur that may include mild to moderate cramping, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and bleeding or spotting. Only you’ll know when it’s time for permanent birth control.
